How to be a good repute?

From finding the right handset to booking tickets, most of us depend on the Internet to make our decisions. In short, the Net has become the one point reference for all our research work. Which is why, be it a company or an individual, Internet reputation management has become big business today.
Kiruba Shankar, a renowned blogger and tech expert, points out, “It is important to have a good online reputation as most of us refer to the Net before any decision or purchase. There are some companies who are very particular and prompt about it.” He tells us about one such experience, “I had booked tickets to Malasiya through an online holiday service portal a few years back and they goofed up. I wrote about it online. The company saw it and immediately sorted things out. It’s a perfect example of taking apt measures to maintain a good online reputation.”
There are a few, simple steps that help uphold online reputation. Sandeep Varma, a social media expert, says, “Not just business houses, but even celebrities take extra care of their online reputation. It’s simple — constantly monitor the development on the company’s website, Facebook or Twitter page. Don’t ignore any complaints and if you think that something does not seem right, then immediately look into the matter.”
Even management schools have realised the gravity of the issue and have specific courses on online branding. Amit Kumar, a management student, says, “When it comes to market research, we have special courses where we are taught to track trends online. It’s a vital trend and some of the biggest companies are investing in web reputation management.”
